A Thought From C. H. Spurgeon:

BURDENS CAST ON HIM
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Ps. 55:22

It is a heavy burden, roll it on Omnipotence. It is thy burden now, and it crushes thee; but when the Lord takes it, He will make nothing of it. If thou art called still to bear it, "he will sustain thee." It will be on Him, and not on thee. Thou wilt be so upheld under it that the burden will be a blessing. Bring the Lord into the matter and thou wilt stand upright under that which in itself would bow thee down.

Our worst fear is lest our trial should drive us from the path of duty; but this the Lord will never suffer. If we are righteous before Him, He will not endure that our affliction should move us from our standing. In Jesus He accepts us as righteous, and in Jesus He will keep us so.

What about the present moment? Art thou going forth to this day's trial alone? Are thy poor shoulders again to be galled with the oppressive load? Be not so foolish. Tell the Lord all about thy grief, and leave it with Him. Don't cast your burden down, and then take it up again; but roll it on the Lord, and leave it there. Then shalt thou walk at large, a joyful and unburdened believer, singing the praises of thy great Burden-bearer.

A Thought For The Week:

“Making God a Liar”

Last week we looked at our fellowship with the Lord and what it takes for us to walk with the Lord. We all need to understand God has made the rules for fellowship and we cannot change those rules. If we proclaim ourselves to be walking in fellowship with the Lord then we must examine our lives to make sure we are not fooling ourselves.

The focus today is on 1st John 1:7 -10 and we start by again looking at our fellowship with God. V. 7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,” that is with God not with the church or man. If we walk in fellowship with God then we will indeed be in fellowship with our church or our brothers in Christ. The Idea is to worry about God before what man or the church may think. Then John goes on in V. 7 and says “and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” You know I thought it strange this statement was inserted right here, but God never does anything strange it is only because we think outside of the thinking of God that makes it strange. The reason this statement is inserted right here is because while John is telling us here about our proper fellowship with the Lord he also reminds us that this is how it is made possible, through the blood of Christ. Without first being washed in the blood your sins remain and no fellowship is possible. Since we have been cleansed by the blood then if we walk in “light” the fellowship is possible and sweet fellowship it is indeed.

John goes on in V. 8 and says “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,” This goes back again to fellowshipping with the Lord and the examining our lives daily. We are sinners even as believers we still sin and it is that daily sin that separates us from the fellowship with the Lord. John goes on to say we are liars if we say we do not sin “and the truth is not in us.” V. 8 So these sins that separates our fellowship with the Lord daily can be just as our sins before our salvation “forgiven” once again renewing our fellowship with the Lord. V. 9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Notice the “If we confess our sins” which must be done daily to keep us in fellowship with the Lord. Because if we say our walk is just without confessing our sins, then we are liars and more than that we make God a liar because He said we do sin daily. V. 10 “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,” Our sins are forgiven, all of them and we will spend eternity with the Lord, but in our daily walk we must remain to ask for forgiveness, other wise our walk in light or outside of light would not matter.

John goes on to say, “and his word is not in us.” I believe the “word” here is Jesus, because if we have Jesus as our Saviour then we will realize we are sinners daily and need continually His forgiveness. Although it could be His bible because it tells of these things and if we ignore them and therefore fool ourselves into believing we are in fellowship with the Lord when we are not and in saying we are make God a liar because He has said just the opposite. Either way we call God a liar and that real serious.

The Lake of Fire:

The lake of fire, a horrid place
To meet His judgment face to face,
Seize the moment still in pain,
And never come to earth again.

Receive the judgment due the sinner,
Ne’er can this road claim the winner.
Plunged beyond God’s simple grace
To meet His judgment in this place.

When from the halls of earth you heard
His saving grace from God’s own word,
Why did you not His wisdom take
And shun the horrors of this lake?

This lake of fire still burning long
Asks why you lingered in your wrong,
And why His tender voice you’d tire,
And live forever in this fire.
